REVENGE Director Gallivants Across Europe
Friday, June 25, 2010
Leaving the producers and editors to fend for themselves for a few days during post-production, Chris Paine is headed to Europe for some important events in the EV sphere. He'll be participating in another electric car rally, then filming the grand opening of the new Danish Tesla dealership. After speaking in Copenhagen on June 30th about Revenge of the Electric Car and on the importance of confronting the oil disaster in the United States, he's headed to the Roskilde Music Festival.
But he won't be there to party and catch some awesome bands... Chris was invited by the US State Department to make a short film for the 2010 UN Convention on Climate Change next December, and he'll be gathering some footage for that at the festival.
Special Guests at an LA Rally
Friday, June 25, 2010
Revenge of the Electric Car director Chris Paine attended the "LA Get Off Oil Day" rally in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, June 22nd, where Chelsea Sexton from Who Killed the Electric Car? was also spotted, along with author and radio personality Richard Greene, LA's mayor, members of NRDC, The Sierra Club, Heal the Bay, and more. The event was organized by filmmakers for the documentary recently released on DVD, Fuel, directed by Josh Tickell- who was also in attendance and speaking at the rally.
A large number of people at the rally were calling for more options for powering vehicles than traditional gas cars and to take REVENGE by having automakers offering and consumers purchasing electric cars.
Two guests of honor also included a GM Chevy Volt and a plug-in Prius also powered by algae.
Chris Paine was happy to attend and show his support for EV because he firmly believes that our country's dependence on oil is bad for the environment and bad for the economy.
"The Gulf Coast oil coast disaster is the environmental calamity of our generation," he says, "It's our Pearl Harbor. If we don't make sure this story is told right and change our habits, the oil industry will make sure its all back to business as usual."
Also in attendance and documenting the day was Huffington Post journalist Jennifer Grayson. See Chris and Tickell share some words in her video:
Second Graders Take Revenge
Tuesday, June 15, 2010
Executive Producer Stefano Durdic made a visit to Chicago's Academy for Global Citizenship today, to give the students at this public contract school a chance to tour the Tesla Roadster and learn about electric cars. The young students had the same questions about electric cars that most adults have:
"How fast does it go?"
"Does it make any noise?"
"How long does it take to charge the battery?"
"Is it expensive?"
"How far can it go before you have to charge it again?"
"What other colors does it come in?"
"Does it come in pink?"
At first they didn't seem to believe Stefano when he told them it can go 120 miles per hour and that it had over 6,000 lithium ion batteries in the back. But after getting some hands-on time with the car to look at the batteries and to see how the "gas tank" wasn't a gas tank but an electric outlet, the kids became believers.
The school's parking lot is located on a busy intersection of the south side of Chicago and Stefano had to nearly yell to get his voice heard over the constant stream of gas-powered traffic behind him. "By the time these kids can drive, half of those cars going by will be electric," said Sarah Elizabeth Ippel, the school's Founder and Executive Director.
The school's optimistic attitude toward energy and sustainability is one of the most important lessons taught there, and the crew of Revenge of the Electric Car was happy to spend part of the day giving their students the opportunity to see and touch a real electric car.
We hope they weren't too disappointed that it doesn't come in pink. Yet.
